Darfur is still there -- but maybe not for long [24 Apr 2005|01:04am]

Believe it or not (from the way the issue has been completely forgotten by US citizens), Darfur is still being made a living hell. We have six more weeks to get aid in before the rainy season comes.

Senators Coburn and Inhofe will each be receiving one letter from me on the issue. Ten letters is the tipping point. That's all it takes to get a senator's attention, to get him to start raising a fuss.

Want to help me with the other nine? Or twenty? Or one hundred?

Sample letters can be found here, here, and here.

Don't worry about making it beautiful, or original. You can even copy and paste. All the senator will likely hear from his staff is how many letters he got, and what side they were on.

Here are the senators' addresses: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Nick, I still want to see Hobo Kitchen in action.
I'm telling you, live music and free meal at least once a month.
Free meal at least once a week.
You know that the home bum feeding doesn't provide a very good vegitarian alternative.
We could get bands together, and probably donations for that matter.

We should also get to the duck pond every lazy sunday and pick up trash and play.

Norman Dumpsters [12 Jan 2005|12:03pm]

Dumpstering is a way to get furniture, spare parts, cloths,Food (as long as you inspect the food you will be safe-although some people aren't keen on the idea of dumpstered food), without contributing to corporations, the government (with the use of money),and living of what americans freely waste. In many cases you can find some really cool shit in dumpsters (music, bikes, t.v.s,vcr,dvd players, liqour, even money) don't be discouraged if you don't find any of this right off but here are some good places I have found around town If anyone is interested and let me know if you find other places.

*Salvation army (clothes, random junk)

*Goodwill (clothes,random junk)

*Wrights IGA(food)

*Hastings (sometimes, usua/ly old pornos but sometimes you can find dvd's, cd's,books, etc)
-Remember leave the dumpster area the same as or cleaner than you found it. It's etiquette to other dumpsterers and the environment

This is it-----------

So start slinging your ideas normanites. One thing I have in the works with a few other people is a zine for the normankids ,hopefully out in the next couple of months. The thing I have found most difficult with all of this stuff is that here in norman were mostly starting from scratch and so it's hard to find a starting point so we just have to start (sounds simple enough eh?). In list of what I think can be a good start is:
*this zine thing
*weekly/bi-weekly potlucks in the park possibly w/ music
*Food not Bombs/Banks on campus
